SANG HO PARK

Consultant and Founder

Sang Ho Park is the founder of Spark Coffee Consulting. Prior to starting his own consulting company, he held various roles in the coffee industry. He was a barista at The espresso room and Taylor Street Baristas. Held the position as Head barista at Tapped and Packed until he started to work at Square Mile Coffee Roasters in East London.

At Square Mile, he started off as a production assistant, where he carried out duties such as labelling retail bags, preparing deliveries for wholesale and web shop customers and setting up production cuppings. He was then appointed as Production manager, where he managed the production area and the team to be efficient and consistent. He was then trained as a roaster by Jessica Macdonald of now Framework Coffee, and found his real passion behind the roasting machine.

Later, he became the Head of Roasting and Quality control at Square Mile Coffee, where he focused not only roasting delicious coffees, but to deliver consistency of roast with other roasters he managed, collecting various datas and analysing them to better the system of quality control and quality assurance.

Sang ho’s curiosity on taste and flavour has led him to pursue a Post graduate degree on Sensory Science at Nottingham University as a Part-time student. This pursuit into academic degree has made him realise the factors such as the effect of surrounding environment to the perceived quality of coffee, to finding the best possible way to carry out quality control in cafes and roasteries.

Also, Sang Ho has competed in many Barista competitions during his coffee career; from Barista, Brewers, Latte art, Coffee in Good Spirits and Cup tasters. Most notably, he was the 2013 UK Brewers Cup Champion, and represented the UK in Melbourne, Australia on May of 2013 at the World Brewers Cup and placed 4th as a World Finalist.

In 2015 he became the UK Coffee in Good Spirits Champion and represented the UK in Gothenburg, Sweden on June 2015 at the World Coffee in Good Spirits and placed 6th as a World Finalist.
